The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) needs your help spreading critical fire safety messaging across the state today and throughout this spring. The DNR is anticipating an extended wildfire season due to lack of measurable snow or rain over the winter months.
We're asking you as your community's representatives to assist in communicating this important safety reminder that fire danger is HIGH for nearly all of Wisconsin today, March 21, 2024.
Very low humidity is in the forecast but with lighter winds and cooler temperatures today. Wildfires can still start due to the dry vegetation.
DNR burn permits are suspended in 24 counties today until rain or snow is expected to arrive overnight. Many local municipalities are also suspending burning due to the elevated fire conditions.
Already this week, 60 wildfires have burned more than 100 acres across the state. Several of these fires resulting from illegal debris burning, hot ashes disposed improperly from fireplaces due to cooler temperatures and structure fires close to dry vegetation.
To make it easier for you to amplify this message to help protect your community, we've created a Facebook post with a few different image options that you can download and use in any communications you plan to issue on this topic.
Credit to the Wisconsin DNR is appreciated on all assets but not required.
Please encourage your constituents to always check fire danger and burn restrictions before burning, as conditions change daily.
Thanks for spreading the word however you're able and helping keep your constituents and communities safe!

Fire Number Sign Replacement
Fire signs are crucial for emergency personnel to locate them in the case of an emergency.
If a resident wants to replace a faded fire sign, they need to obtain an address number application for replacement from the Real Property Lister at the Adams County court house.
The house number application is also available on the Adams County website at "house number application".
Replacement cost is $40 and will be added to the property tax bill as a special assessment.
